10. Sustainability of the Project
Many of the students of the 'Silent History' Team will graduate at the end of 2008-2009 Education Year. However, sustainability of this project and development of new projects depend on the students who are junior today and natural member of the team. New students will substitute the old ones, the graduates will be advisors and sharing the knowledge and experiences, they will continue supporting the team.
On the other hand, a number of visitors visiting our web site, the documents the local government gave, the news made by newspapers, and most importantly, the local government's decision to preserve the site and restore it in 2005 show our success. For this reason, keeping our relations with media lively and activities to make Rumkale a permanent issue in the agenda will continue.
After the concert by İzmir Symphony Orchestra here, the local government has taken steps to arrange an auditorium without destroying the historical environment.
In addition, it has been informed that they will build a resting facility around here.
In addition to the transportation and making the site known, the investigation of biological variety and activities to increase the villagers' awareness have started. In fact, before the dam started to hold water, the area was full of various habitation. Now, however, with the amount of increasing water and as a result of the climate change, it's been difficult to find every plant around.
Because there has not been any previous study on flora and fauna, the University of Gaziantep's assistance has been asked for in this matter. The aim of this guidance is to set up an ecological stability and preserve the eco system.
In the lake formed behind the dam abounds in variety of fish. Local people make their living marketing the fish they catch in the dam lake. Unscheduled catch of the fish destroys the fish population. Educating the people here might help stabilize the fishing regime and their population as a permanent income source. Along the dam lake surrounding Rumkale are many villages, whose underground problems must be solved before any water pollution and drained water problems get started.
To make our energy production from the dam more effective, it must be integrated with better systems.
